Write in Ron Paul! Send a message to the Republicans!

Published by Taliesin under Politics, Rants

Listen, I used to be a Republican. At this time, I am registered as a Republican, only because I wanted to vote for Ron Paul in the California Primaries. I wanted to avoid what has happened now; a liberal Republican nominee for President. I no longer share the views of the Republican party, however.

Time was, the Republican party was synonymous with the Conservative base.  You didn’t have to say “I am a Conservative Republican.”  That was understood, so you didn’t have to qualify “Republican”.  John McCain, however, is not a conservative.  And that means that saying you’re a Republican does not mean that you are a conservative.  In fact, it likely means you’re a liberal in disguise.

McCain has supported raising taxes to fund anti-smoking campaigns, sought to impose limits on a private individual or company’s right to free speech in his campaign finance reform bill, has pandered on the whole “Global Warming” issue, voted against the Bush Tax Cuts, has worked with Ted Kennedy to legalize illegal immigrants, etc….he’s not a conservative.

But just because he’s the Republican nominee does NOT mean you need to vote for him!  Our country has a system whereby you can vote for whomever you think would make a good candidate, whether or not they’ve garnered the nomination from either of the major parties in our country.  Write in Ron Paul’s name.  I’m not saying Paul will win.  There’s no way.  But the Republican party needs to see that there is a large group of their base that are dissatisfied with the policies of the pseudo-conservatives.  If splintering the vote causes Obama to win, then we have struck a blow to the increasingly leftward slide of the Republican party.

The GOP tends to be conservative only when a liberal is in power.  When politicians get in power, they tend to be more self-serving than anything else.  This is why whenever a conservative gets in office, his conservative promises are thrown out the window, and he panders to the left.  Happens every time.  Out of every politician I’ve seen, however, Paul seems the least likely to do that.

Look at his voting record.  Did you know that his nickname in the Senate is Dr. No?  Because he ALWAYS votes “no” on tax increases, etc.  That is conservative.  He is anti-abortion.  He is anti-IRS.  This is conservatism, America. Not John McCain.

I am writing in Ron Paul because I refuse to vote for John McCain, and because I think my vote needs to be something which allows me to sleep at night.

update: My company called PrimeShine and complained about both the stickers AND their treatment of our employees.  PrimeShine was incredulous that the stickers didn’t work, since we HAD activated them, etc. etc. Their solution?  They’re sending us new freaking stickers.  That’s right…they can’t just make the numbers on OUR stickers work.  The stickers, themselves, are pieces of crap.  Nice job, PrimeShine.  Send junk stickers to your customers, and then treat them like they’re trying to scam you when the junk stickers don’t work.  This is an excellent business strategy!
