The handsomeness of Biblical Masculinity…
This is far too large for me to take on, I think. Douglas Wilson has written some excellent material that I think should be on every engaged man’s reading list BEFORE getting married. My pre-marital counseling was great from the two pastors we took it from, but I think some of the best advice I got on being a godly husband was from the Wilson books:
Reforming Marriage
Federal Husband
Fidelity
At any rate, the guys over at Reformation21’s blog are covering Biblical Masculinity in response to the problems the mainstream church is having with evangelical feminism. One of them said that the best cure for evangelical feminism is godly masculinity, and I agree totally. (Feel free to comment, as I’m sure that riled someone out there.) :)
These are links (that open in a new window) to the 5 existent posts on Biblical Masculinity over there:
Biblical Masculinity #1: Fear of the Lord
Biblical Masculinity #2: A Definition
Biblical Masculinity #3: Industry
Biblical Masculinity #4: Integrity
Biblical Masculinity #5: Self Control
I HIGHLY recommend any women who are looking for husbands out there to consider these qualities in their search. If you happen to be engaged, courting, or even simply dating, please look at these posts, and have your significant other take a look at them. :) It could do you worlds of good.
In addition, if you can get a hold of those Douglas Wilson books, they will reward your careful study, as they are VERY Biblically-based. (For men only on those books, by the way…women may wish they had not been curious if they read them. Douglas Wilson is a very…frank writer. Blunt.)
