New Music out this past Tuesday…

Published by Taliesin under Random Topics

Evanescence released their first studio album since their initial offering.  Amy Lee does a phenomenal job at this one as well.  Having only recently been introduced to the music of Evanescence, I must say that their heavy, angst-ridden sounds are a very welcome surprise.

Amy Lee’s voice shines on the album, though it seems with less of a classical influence than their first album.  Some might say that their sound has matured, though I don’t know about that.  A lot of this album would generally pass by the radar, not being exceedingly different.  However, many of these songs really have some interludes that remind me why I like this band.  Occasionally, Amy’s piano cuts in, while the heavy guitars and drums cut out, or else, she just does something I didn’t expect with her amazingly powerful voice.

In all, it’s a good sophomore offering, and I’m glad I got to listen to it.

For those who haven’t heard Evanescence before, they’re a pretty heavy band, with a pretty dark sound.  Amy’s voice dominates the sound, and when you can tear your ears away from it, you can hear the punctuating undertones of distorted guitar and bass.  As for lyrical content, I couldn’t really tell you.  I usually have to analyze the music over many listenings before I can focus on the lyrics without getting distracted by the music.  :)  However, I’m sure you can look up the lyrics somewhere on the Internet.

Coming Soon: Review of Stephen Lawhead’s Patrick: Son of Ireland

Published by Taliesin under Random Topics

I finished my Geology book, and my test is scheduled.  I am studying the overviews of the Geology chapters to cover whatever I missed, but I am also getting in some reading of Stephen Lawhead’s excellent Historical Fiction, Patrick: Son of Ireland.

I’ve been wanting to re-read this for several months now and in a bizarre twist of events, Succat, Patrick’s original given name, was mentioned at our recent Reformation Lecture.  Really made me want to read it again.  :)  I’ll post my review when I’m done reading it.
