1 is the loneliest number…
I was reading in one of my favorite blogs today, and my friend, Taliesin (name coincidences are cool), was noting the inadequacy of “self” in the Christian life. Check it out here:

(And it REALLY is a good post. Please go read it. Link opens in new window.)
I could get all philosophical about the reason for what I am about to say, but I don’t know that I could nail it. What I have found in all of the people I talk with or disciple in some way, is that they all think they can go it alone.
Whether it’s the current fad for young people, or whether it’s an unwillingness to place themselves under an authority other than God (including their parents), I see this a great deal, and it saddens me. I cannot ignore the fact that a couple years ago, my wife and I were just like this, but it only lasted for around a year or so before we realized that we could not make it alone. Allow me to rephrase this. You, Christian, can not make it alone. I’ll leave the wonderful biblical support for this idea to Taliesin at Unity Without Verity, but this is a very Biblical concept going all the way back to Adam.
Please don’t try and make it alone, people. Find a church, and be faithful in attending and giving. Your significant other/spouse/friend does not count. Even listening to sermons on the radio does not count. The parts of the body cannot survive apart from the rest of the body, and let me ask you this…
Having existed as a Christian outside of the church, can you honestly say that your faith has been growing, and that you have been growing in grace? Have you been reading the Bible and praying as you ought? Are you generally happy with your obedience to the Lord Who made you? Didn’t think so.
Go check out that post at Unity Without Verity. As always, he did an excellent job.
