Disgusting weekend in politics…

Published by Taliesin under Rants

Of course, I’m talking about ex-Representative Mark Foley.  What is disgusting?  Several things, actually.

1. The e-mails and IM’s and the sentiment and spirit behind them are disgusting.  Mark Foley was all for signing legislation protecting children from Internet predators, but turned out to be one himself.  If you’ve not read the e-mails and IM’s, don’t!  Just take my word for it…they’re disgusting, and he was most definitely at fault.

2. Democrats are saying this is what Republicans are all about, and Republicans are saying that this is comparable to all kinds of other scandals.  Oh sure, amidst the maneuvering, you’ll hear about how Foley’s actions were deplorable, etc.  But what you usually hear is “we’re better than the other party”.  However, I can’t believe that I heard Sean Hannity saying that this was the same as Clinton.  Listen, Clinton was a nasty dude, and he was a disgrace to the Presidency.  I never liked him, and his baldface lies, which he got out of were just despicable.  But his philandering with the intern(s) is not comparable to Foley’s flirting and being disgusting with a 16 year old male page.

Both parties are morally bankrupt.  This is not proof that anyone is better than anyone else.  Michael Savage said, “Is this proof of a double standard?  There are no standards in Washington!”  What do we need?  Frankly, I have no faith that our government can be saved.  I think the leaders we have in Washington at the moment are a result of the moral bankruptcy of American society in general.  The old programming phrase applies: Garbage in, Garbage out.

Sure, we could say that America needs to turn to the Lord.  And that would most definitely put things on an upswing, but do you really, honestly, truthfully think that’s going to happen?  Me neither.
