THIS is how those gas station warnings should look…

This gas station warning is honest, and doesn’t attempt to cause sensationalism while neglecting the facts.  Don’t get back in your car while you fuel, and if you feel you have to, make sure you discharge any static you cause by sitting down by touching a metal surface.  Don’t be surprised if you get a shock…that shock could have been what ignited gasoline fumes in your car.

Better shocked than immolated.

Comments working again…

Published by Taliesin under Random Topics

Alrighty!  It looks like I’ve gotten comments working again, and I’m not entirely sure how.  I don’t want to seem entirely incompetent, but I really have no idea which of the options I changed made it work.  But they appear to be working.  If you’ve seen something that you wanted to comment on lately, but couldn’t, please comment on it.  :)

I really DO welcome your comments…it only seemed like I didn’t because somehow I managed to break the ability to comment.  I think this had something to do with when I was fixing the translation errors in this blog.  Originally my admin page was in German, and I couldn’t understand most of the settings.  lol.  This has been fixed, and I saw some options that were a little off.

Thanx to Nathan for letting me know this functionality was broken.  Comment away!

Rosie O’Donnell…Think about this before you watch her ever again…

Published by Taliesin under Rants

I heard a sound byte where Rosie said “Radical Christianity is just as dangerous as Radical Islam.”

Screw that…

I have been informed that posting comments apparently doesn’t work…

Published by Taliesin under Rants

I don’t know why the comments thing isn’t working, but if someone tries posting a comment, and it works, please let me know.  I’m going to have to fiddle with this thing and see what I can find!

News headlines that either torked me off or made me laugh…

‘Fiction over Fact’ in 9/11 show
You see, Mr. Clinton, this is how you react when you see something you would like to claim as inaccurate. You don’t attempt to suppress it beforehand.  If you want, you can even proactively claim that the preview version you saw was inaccurate.  Just let your fans know that you claim that it’s false, and let them make their own judgements.

Brad to marry when gays can too
Nice one, Brad. Sounds like you’ve stumbled upon the PERFECT excuse to avoid doing something you don’t want to do.

“Yeah, honey.  I’ll do the dishes when they free the Pendleton 8!  That’s the ticket.  Oh, and we can watch Pride and Prejudice when they put sidewalks on county maintained roads!  Because I am outraged at the injustice!  Yeah!  That’s it!!!”

Whatever.

Who censors free speech?? Let’s be freakin’ honest here…

Published by Taliesin under Rants

This morning, I was listening to the Bob and Tom Show, which I usually like.  I know Bob and Tom are not Christians…they’ve admitted their dislike of religion and religious institutions.  I don’t have a problem with that.  Most people dislike true Christianity.  However, their dislike of zealous Christianity usually is also directed against radical Muslims, etc.  While Bob and Tom dislike the fanatic Muslim religion, they made some comments that quite angered me this morning.

They were talking about the FCC, and how the FCC will fine television stations about $325,000 if they air 9/11 footage in a documentary about…9/11, because of the swearing of some firemen.  Read the full story here. (Link opens in new window.)  This understandably angered Bob and Tom, who see their show’s ability to air sexually suggestive content dwindling. Tom said, and I paraphrase, that the Christian right should all be shot and their homes burned for seeking to limit free speech in this country.

Oh, really?

Listen, I support your right to say that on the air, however misguided and retarded it may be.  THE RIGHT seeks to limit free speech?  And I suppose you would claim that the Left is the last bastion of free speech, then?  Well, you would be wrong.  Look at this story. (Link opens in new window.)

So, in this story, we see that the left loves free speech as long as the speech in question is filthy, sexually suggestive, or directed at the right (Christians, specifically.)  In that story, we see Bill Clinton directing ABC to edit their docudrama, “The Patch to 9/11″ claiming that it incorrectly portrays Clinton’s administration as being the indirect cause of 9/11.  Who’s destroying free speech now??  Who is forbidding that the press report as they see it?  The left, and the left’s poster boy, Bill Clinton.

Have the Republicans done the same thing?  I’m sure they have, but the liberals were able to watch and revel in the Michael Moore films, weren’t they?  As the story says, “Michael Moore, Oliver Stone and most of Hollywood” have taken shot after shot at the conservative right, and they roll with the punches.  There are many who claim that Clinton’s very dramatic reaction to this film is because the claims presented in this film are true.  I don’t know about this, but I DO know that they should have been allowed to air whatever they want, if free speech is to be preserved.

Let’s be honest here.  There have been several violations of free speech in our nation’s history, but to claim that the Christians or the Republicans are the source of it all is patently false, and completely dishonest.

Here’s something else to gnaw on, people. I heard on the radio that Bill Clinton was making noise that he would sue to makers of this film for defamation.  Whether or not this is true, defamation is not a claim that Billy-Boy can level against anyone.  He’s a public figure.  By becoming a public figure, he is allowing the world to make fun of him in whatever way he sees fit.  He can denounce claims that he slept with an intern named Monica Lewinsky.  He can claim that the film’s portrayal of his dereliction of his duties because of his affair was wrong.  But they have every right to say it.  That’s what being a public figure is all about.

I hope you get a chance to read this before Bill Clinton demands that I remove it from my site.  :)

Book Review Update…

Published by Taliesin under Random Topics

I know I said I would make the Book Reviews section a regular feature, and that is still my intention.  However, lately, I’ve been studying Geology, which I’ve needed to do since January of this year.  Essentially, I only have 2 more Science Units to finsh my degree, and since I’ve gotten the new job, I’ve really not had the impetus to finish that I normally would have.

So I’ve put it off long enough.  I’ve been reading three chapters a week in this book, and that doesn’t leave me much time for anything else in terms of reading.  If I have time to read something interesting, I have time to read Geology…and probably SHOULD be reading Geology.

At the rate I’m going, I should be finished with the Geology book in a couple weeks, when I can take the Geology test, and finally apply for my degree.  Yay!

As soon as I’m done reading Geology, I’ll have a couple book reviews for you.  I’m currently reading Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson and a mystery novel called Blind Trust by a writer named Linda Grant.  I’ll review both of them when I’m done.  :)  There’s something weird writing a review on a book that’s been in print for over 100 years, but many of you may never have read it.  :)

I would like to ask for prayer…

Published by Taliesin under Random Topics

A friend of mine could really use prayer today.  I’m not going to go into the why’s.  If you ask that God strengthen Chris’ friend, He’ll know what you’re talking about. As far as I’m concerned, this is as big of an emergency that I’ve ever asked for prayer about, so please understand the urgency with which I ask you for prayer.

Thank you.

A picture from awhile ago…

Published by Taliesin under Random Topics

I took this picture on July 27th because it amused me, and I thought I’d share it with you.  :)

Ducks at a gas station...
What you see are 2 ducks waddling across the entrance to a gas station on Highway 132 near Empire, CA. Those who have been to the Fruit Yard filling station know that there are lots of ducks out at the fountain behind this station, but the framing of this particular picture made me laugh.
