Fall is coming…

Those in the Central Valley in California know exactly where I’m coming from on this one.  Many people around the US will say, “Uh, yeah…September 23rd…dork.”  While I cannot deny the fact that I probably am a dork, unless you’ve “enjoyed” the blasting heat of summer in the Valley, you can know nothing about what I speak!  :)

In the Valley, we usually have at least 10 days that are over 100 degrees.  This last year we had several days over 110 degrees, and it was just nasty.  Regardless of whether you think I’m a heat-wimp, I hate the summertime.

Most people get depressed in winter.  Something about the lack of intense sunlight or something tends to put everyone’s mood on the downward spiral.  On the other hand, when it begins to get cold, I get excited for no reason!  Sure, I’m more comfortable when it’s cool, but I don’t think that’s why I’m so happy when the wind picks up, when the leaves fall, and when the days get shorter.  After all, I work in a very cool environment.  Most days, my office stays around 68 degrees.  Sometimes it feels downright cold in here.  :)

No, I love “gloomy”, overcast, rainy days, and this downward trend in temperature heralds the return to my favorite weather.  It’s hard to explain how my heart sinks when I look out the window and it’s bright and sunny.  Nor can I expound the joy that wells up in my soul when I see stormclouds above.  When I drive home and it looks like it’s going to rain, I get the shivers!  It feels much like waking up on my birthday!  I feel that God has granted me a gift when I can experience these days.

Longer nights…cold wind…chilled noses…jackets…and snuggling with the woman I love.  Man, this winter is going to be awesome!
