Heard from an old friend today…
Actually, what happened was I wrote an e-mail to an old friend whom I miss very much. She wrote me back, but the text of the e-mail left something to be desired. She wrote, and I quote:
“um, who are you?”
Ouch.
Well, I’m certainly not the most memorable of our group of friends, I’ll admit. I think Adam takes that taco. I’m sure I was fairly annoying to some of them, but I never expected that from this person. The e-mail I wrote her referenced a Clarinet player from the fraternity that I was sure she would have known…she could have looked at my MySpace page and seen my first name, and I was SURE she would have figured out who it was. I can see others forgetting me…sure. Completely understandable. But I would never have expected it from someone who was so unforgettable in my life. We never dated, but I thought we were close. Must have been my very active imagination…darn that imagination.
Edit: Turns out she was pulling my leg. Also turns out I’m a retard. Big surprise there. Thank you, my friend for letting me know. :-D Sorry I took it so literally. Text is emotionless sometimes.
In other news…well, there’s not really any other news. Kim and I are planning a trip to Scotland, and against my better judgement I’ve gotten my hopes up. Summer of 2007 could be when we take my second most anticipated trip of my life. :) And if it doesn’t happen then, it likely won’t happen until we enter the sunset of our lives. C’est la vie. His will not mine.
I’m going to get outta here…I got stuff to do. :)
I’m currently drinking: Nothing…but recently a co-worker brought me 6 beers as a form of payment for some very brief computer work I did for him. He’s from Belgium, and the ales he brought were Belgian ales. VERY tasty. True Belgian ales are something to be experienced for the beer connoisseur. They are usually live ales, which means there’s been yeast and/or priming liquid added to the bottle to encourage natural carbonation. Live ales do have a certain flavor to them that mass-produced bottled ales do not, and that is the flavor that is added by the yeast. Leffe, which is the first one I tried was very tasty. A very powerful fruity aroma wafted from the bottle immediately upon opening. Nearly filled the room, and I’ve not smelled something like that in a long time, if ever.
As with all Begian ales, the head was a VERY persistent, thick, light, aroma-giving wonderfulness. :) Stays throughout the drinking process, and laces the sides of the glass. The flavor was almost like that of a Scotch ale without the heaviness or the smokyness. You really don’t expect it from the blonde color of the ales, but they were very tasty! Light carmel and butterscotch notes, with that wonderful, nutty/yeasty flavor. To be drunk very cold, and in a Belgian Ale glass, which I don’t have. :)
I also tried one bottle of Affligem, which I rather enjoyed as well. I’m going to see if I can get a hold of some of these in BevMo next time I go. Beer from Belgium and beer from the British Isles are my favorite thus far. :)
